This is a sustainable packaging design for a classic Ikea lamp. Ikea itself is a sustainable company and has a generous plant a tree program with American Forests. So why not make their packaging reflect this mindset as well as answering their consumer's needs. Anyone who has moved out and gone to college in my area lives with Ikea furniture. It is cost effective, clean, simple and ideal for the portable or spacially challenged youth.
This concept packages the lamp in a reversible box that contains a stylish pattern on the inside, and once turned inside-out becomes a lamp stand and mini storage space with a magnetic closure. The plastic you see the product through, slide out and become custom shade inserts to showcase your personal touch and customizing your lamp to be more "you."
The Swedish word "Sken" is a play on the English word "skin" in that this product is now customizable; and in Swedish it means "light." Thus we have our customizeable light with sustainable packaging that reuses 90% of it's original packaging.
